A team of Ranchi NDRF brought out the decomposed body of coal rag Parmeshwar from the fire hole in Jharia mines in the Ghanuadih Gandhi Chabutra area after 23 hours on Saturday.
A 15-member NDRF team led by Inspector Rahul Kumar Singh started the rescue operation at 10 am and recovered the burnt body around 12 pm.
Parmeshwar Chouhan (40) slipped in a fire hole in the fire area of Jharia Mines on Friday at 3 pm. The NDRF team was called for the rescue after the Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) team expressed their inability to retrieve the body due to high temperature and poisonous gas blowing from the hole.
Rahul Kumar Singh told the media that the mine hole was full of poisonous gas and the temperature was more than 160 degrees Celsius.
“The fire hole was very deep. However, with the help of a rope and an iron angle bar, we were able to pull out the body trapped in the hole,” said an NDRF inspector.
Jharia Circle Officer (CO) Pramesh Kushwaha, who supervised the rescue operation, said the entire area has been declared a fire and subsidence zone. The victim's family has already been allocated a quarter in a safe place. However, government compensation would be provided as per the rules, he added.
